Build a Wooden Toy Car Garage

If you want to give your young child a special gift, nothing is more special than if you make it yourself or if you two construct it together. Most little boys have a bunch of toy cars, but nowhere to keep them except a lunch box, toy bin, a toy carport canopy, or something else not specifically made for toy cars. Instead of buying them a toy car garage, you can build one for them!

The first part you will probably want to do on your own since it will take a little saw work on the wood. Be sure to pick a sturdy wood to get started; a hardwood would work best. Some of the more common hardwoods include red oak, white oak, cherry wood, ash wood, or maple wood. To make a simple two floor garage, take two square pieces of wood (maybe two feet by two feet), and then cut out a little square corner of one of the pieces using a saw. Now sand the wood down using sandpaper so that the wood is smooth and won’t splinter.  You should do the same for the wooden garage doors you build too.

Now connect the two pieces of wood with long strips of wood on each side. At this point it should look like an empty box made up of only the edges and the top and bottom sides (basically a frame). Now take a piece of cardboard, and connect the top and bottom of it to the little hole you made before: this will be the ramp for the cars to drive up when they are going to park on the second floor.

Once this part is done, you may want to bring your child on to help you paint it. Be sure to paint the whole thing gray or black, and include the yellow dashes to show where the cars can drive and park. Add some fun things like a toll station where cars pay to park (including a movable toll pole), stairs to the top floor for people, and trees, etc. These you can either buy at a toy store or make from cardboard. Painting the whole thing will be a really fun project. Once that is done, your young child will have a fun place to play with his cars, and a place to keep them stored when he isn’t playing with them.

Toy Cars are the Classic Boy Toy

There is no toy more masculine to give your young boy a than a toy car and carport. Toy cars are the most classic toys little boys ever wanna play with. If you’ve ever been in a room with little boys and girls, and there are toys scattered, you will naturally see the boys drawn to the cars and the girls drawn to the dolls. It really is quite amazing! Sure action figures and sports equipment are popular with little boys too, but anything with a motor is what really draws them in. Is it any wonder that when boys grow up to men, their cars and other vehicles become their most prized possessions?

When you buy your little boy some toy cars, make sure to pick some out that are real life models, so they’ll start learning about real cars too. Let them choose their color and model and start learning about the statistics of each car as well (horsepower, price range, etc.). They can compare their little toy cars with real life cars and start developing an interest in vehicles early on. If they like it enough, they may grow up to become mechanics or engineers!

Also, if they fall in love with their toy cars early on, it will give them a goal to work towards when they get older (the real life version of that same car!). You’ll never see a teenager’s work ethic as high as when he is working towards buying his very first car! Or even older people when they want to buy a luxury or sporty vehicle. No matter how you look at it, toy vehicles for young kids are the way to go. They are fun to play with, they learn a little bit more about the real world through them, and in some cases, they even inspire kids to fall in love with cars and work hard for them. If you are going to buy your young boy some new toys, consider buying them a toy car collection based on real life models.
